An Ontological Inquiry into the Life of a Highly Skilled Art Therapist
Choi Sun-Nam

Abstract
The purpose of this inquiry is to provide an opportunity to learn humane qualities and present a good model for both art therapist candidates who explore their lives in training and art therapists in the field. For this study, the author used a peer-nomination and snowball sampling to request for the most accredited and skilled Korean art therapist, and was recommended to this therapist. After explaining the purpose of this study to her and receiving her agreement, the author researched therapist¡¯s life through her interview records for a full year, visiting her art therapy institution and observing her journals, articles, retirement writings, and artworks. To understand her life ¡®as it is¡¯, the author analyzed data with the ontological inquiry method. In the results, the author could find meaningful themes in therapist¡¯s life. These themes were ¡®freedom from non-possession¡¯, ¡®responsibility for speech¡¯, ¡®altruism resulting in sympathy¡¯, and ¡®always compelled back home and their mother¡¯. The results exposed that therapist¡¯s life is consistent with her professional life as a therapist and that her daily life was an ordinary life of a therapist.
